This most populous state of India having as many inhabitants as Brazil, has
recently been bifurcated into two states - the hilly areas (Uttranchal) &
Indo Gangatic plains (Uttar Pradesh).
The Mighty Ganges River - the most sacred river for the Hindus, forms the
backbone of the economy of this state.
The Kumbh Mela at Allahabad (January to March'2001) is held every 12 years
where millions of pilgrims and tourists converge. For the tourists, this

Resort & white water rafting at Rishikesh, Auli Ski Resort in Garhwal
Himalays, Elephant Safaris at Corbett Tiger Reserve, glimpses of living
culture more than 3000 years old at Varanasi & Buddhist pilgrimage spots
